Old house on a dirt back road, windows broken, roof collapsed
Aged beyond useful, forgotten by time.
Broken barn, shattered sheds, silos hidden in vines
Reclaimed by the land, their people long gone.
To other lives, or cemeteries
Great hopes, now memories of lost dreams.
Shadows of children, play behind broken windows
Abandoned tire swing sways in the yard
Hope and dreams shattered by reality,
Perhaps broken on the wheel of bitterness and loss
Their stories, fading in the evening light
Like visions of love and romance from the past.
